I am currently one of the Barton Ward city councillors, where I was re-elected in 2023. I’m well-known in the area having lived and worked in South Canterbury for the past 25 years. I’m very active in the community: as a governor at a local secondary school, a Trust member of a local primary school and a supporter of the local Food and Advice Hubs. I’m also really pleased to say I recently secured funding from Kent Cricket for a programme of kids’ cricket and disability cricket, which started this month.
If elected my key objectives for Kent County Council are:
- Good Quality Education – giving children and young people a better start in and out of school
- Fixing Social Care – investing in prevention to create care that puts people at its heart
- Fixing Roads – fewer potholes, limiting road closures, and an affordable transport system that works
- Secure Local Jobs – a thriving economy delivering better and more secure job opportunities

I am currently the Kent County Councillor for Canterbury City North and the Leader of the Kent Labour Group. I moved to Canterbury in 1989 as a boy and the city has been my home ever since – it’s where I’m now bringing up my own little boy.
One of my main aims after becoming a councillor has been to help local residents to be more involved in the decisions which affect their communities. Early on I realised the division was at a disadvantage regarding road improvements. I started a pilot scheme working with Resident Associations to develop Highways Improvement Plans. This has delivered path improvements, a new pedestrian crossing in place and another being funded, cycle path improvements, and an extension to a 20mph zone coming this May. The latter was a priority of two local Resident Associations.
I have worked with local schools and youth and community groups to help with funding for their various projects. And I have played a hands-on role with environmental projects for the open spaces in the area, helping to plant hundreds of trees and bulbs, litter picking, and I even donned waders on several occasions to help clear rubbish from the Stour.
